Al-Burhan to Guterres’ Envoy: The Government Seeks to Achieve Peace

Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received on Sunday the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohieddin Salem.

Al-Burhan welcomed the envoy, affirming Sudan’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations and all its agencies operating in the country to achieve humanitarian, developmental, and social goals.

He stressed the government’s appreciation of the Secretary-General’s efforts and personal interest in Sudan’s peace file, commending Lamamra’s work toward fostering peace. Al-Burhan reiterated the government’s desire to achieve peace nationwide in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue working with the Secretary-General and his envoy to enhance security and stability in Sudan and the broader region.

Lamamra stated that he came to Sudan to follow up on the political, security, and humanitarian situation at the request of the UN Secretary-General, who has been closely monitoring developments.

He acknowledged the complexity of the situation for the Sudanese government but emphasized that opportunities still exist for a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue capable of ending bloodshed and restoring stability. He added that the UN stands ready to provide all necessary support to achieve this goal.
