Sudan and Türkiye Reach Understandings on Livestock and Fisheries

Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Prof. Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri announced a series of preliminary understandings and agreements with Türkiye aimed at expanding investment in the livestock sector to advance production and benefit citizens. He noted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s interest in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Following his meeting in Port Sudan with Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz, attended by the ministry’s undersecretary Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh, the minister said the discussions revived suspended agreements, including plans to provide a new irrigation network for the Hawad Valley in River Nile State.
The ambassador proposed several projects Turkey could support financially, technically, and through training, including initiatives in River Nile State.
He also expressed interest in supporting the establishment of the Animal Production City in Atbara and refrigerated storage facilities to supply local and regional markets—particularly western Saudi Arabia—with fresh products.
The two sides agreed on training Sudanese veterinarians domestically via Turkish experts in artificial insemination and embryo transfer.
The ambassador additionally pledged to establish 10 new slaughterhouses in various states, equipped with transport lines to facilitate delivery of fresh products to consumers.
The minister thanked Turkey for establishing the Animal Production Center in Al-Gezira State and for expanding strategic cooperation in the livestock sector.
