
On Monday, Acting Attorney General Kamal Mahjoub Ahmed Saeed, who also serves as Vice President of the National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National and International Humanitarian Law, received the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, Reem Al-Salem, at his office in Port Sudan. The meeting was attended by Dr. Salma Ishaq Al-Khalifa, Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, and several members of the National Committee.
According to the Sudan News Agency, the meeting discussed legal and judicial mechanisms for protecting women and girls, with a focus on accountability and preventing impunity.
The Acting Attorney General reviewed the roles of the Public Prosecution and the National Committee in protecting women and girls affected by the ongoing war, efforts to combat related crimes, and special measures enabling victims to access justice. He presented data on violations against women and girls, including statistics on filed criminal cases and procedures safeguarding the rights of the accused under the law.
The UN Special Rapporteur thanked the Public Prosecution and National Committee for their hospitality and ongoing cooperation, praising their efforts in protecting women and girls, and reaffirmed the UN office’s readiness to provide technical support to enhance their capacity.
