The Sudanese police affirmed their commitment to the directives of Sovereignty Council Chair General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, ensuring that no citizen is denied official documents, emphasizing that obtaining a passport is a legal right of every Sudanese citizen.
Police spokesperson Brigadier General Fath al-Rahman Mohammed al-Tom, as reported by Altra Sudan, stated that the police coordinate with judicial and security bodies to facilitate document issuance, noting that human rights principles prohibit denying any citizen their identification documents. He added that “the Sudanese passport is both a travel document and proof of identity.”
Al-Tom clarified that travel restrictions may apply for criminal reasons—private or public rights issues, security concerns, or migration-related matters. Individuals may be added to a travel ban list, which is lifted once the reasons no longer exist. He referenced the 2022 regulations, which restricted passport issuance under certain conditions. He emphasized that the Sovereignty Council Chair’s directives aim to streamline access to official documents.
