U.S. Website: Dozens of Emergency Room Volunteers Killed by Militia

Pass Blue, a U.S.-based website specializing in UN-US relations and global women’s issues, reported that the Rapid Support Forces executed former Sudanese MP Soham Hassan Hasaballah along with other civilians on October 26, when they took control of North Darfur’s capital, El Fasher. Hasaballah had volunteered with local emergency response teams, which became targets amid the ongoing civil war.

Nearly three years into Sudan’s devastating conflict, the death toll is estimated to exceed 150,000, while more than 21 million people face severe hunger. In 2025 alone, 30.4 million people out of a total population of 46.8 million require humanitarian assistance.

Due to irregular international aid delivery, local heroes like Hasaballah have stepped up to serve millions across the country. Over 100 volunteers from these emergency response networks have been killed since the beginning of the war.

“These volunteers do not serve strangers; they work with their families and neighbors,” said Haitham Al-Nour, spokesperson for the Emergency Response Teams. “They manage what the international community should, with a clear vision for Sudan and deep understanding of local realities.”
