
Militias led by rebel commander Joseph Tuka, backed by elements of the Janjaweed, launched a violent attack Tuesday morning on several garrisons in South Kurmuk locality, targeting the areas of Deim Mansour and Khor Al-Budi.
According to field sources, the armed forces repelled the attack with determination. Heavy clashes erupted and were still ongoing at the time of reporting, resulting in significant losses among the attacking militias, while army units maintained firm control of their positions.
Sources confirmed that the armed forces secured control of the situation and thwarted the objectives of the attack, as part of ongoing efforts to secure the area and protect civilians.
