Contractors involved in transporting military supplies for the Rapid Support Forces militia from the Libyan city of Kufra to Darfur have increased truck drivers’ wages tenfold, yet have failed to secure their cooperation.
Sources in Kufra, southern Libya, told the news website Al-Muhaqqiq that the contractors—who appeared to be in a hurry—offered truck drivers 200,000 Libyan dinars per driver instead of 20,000. However, drivers remain reluctant to take the “risk” following drone strikes carried out by the Sudanese Air Force against supply convoys entering Darfur from Libya in recent months. The strikes reportedly destroyed transport trucks and killed large numbers of drivers.
The sources told Al-Muhaqqiq that three days ago, trucks entering Sudan were targeted, and surviving drivers are currently receiving treatment in Kufra hospitals after sustaining varying injuries.
Eastern Libya, controlled by General Khalifa Haftar and his sons, represents one of the most important military supply corridors reaching the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia.
