The Sudan Shield Forces have announced their rejection of the sanctions decision issued by Britain against their commander, Abu Aqla Keikel, stating that the move lacks objective field-based assessment and does not reflect the reality of the complex security challenges Sudan is facing under the current circumstances.
In a statement, the Media Office of the official spokesperson for the Sudan Shield Forces affirmed that the force is a national entity operating within the state’s military framework and supports the Sudanese Armed Forces in carrying out their constitutional duty of protecting civilians, preserving state institutions, and safeguarding security and stability.
The statement noted that the Sudan Shield Forces carry out their duties under full operational coordination with the relevant authorities and have, since joining what it described as the national battle, adhered to a disciplined operational approach governed by clear responsibilities dictated by the requirements of defending citizens and confronting the threats posed by the rebel militia.
The statement added that ignoring the serious and well-documented crimes and violations committed by this militia against civilians and infrastructure does not contribute to achieving justice nor does it serve efforts aimed at restoring security and stability. Instead, it leads to unbalanced readings of an extremely sensitive reality that requires the highest levels of accuracy, neutrality, and objectivity.
The Sudan Shield Forces stressed that such decisions will not undermine internal cohesion, nor will they affect the readiness of its forces or their commitment to national duties. It affirmed that it will continue to carry out its missions alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces, within a clear military vision aimed at ending the rebellion, consolidating security, and creating conditions for the return of normal life across the country.
The statement reaffirmed the Sudan Shield Forces’ full commitment to the principles governing the protection of civilians and to responsible conduct consistent with relevant laws and norms, emphasizing its belief that Sudan’s stability constitutes a fundamental pillar for the security of the entire region. It said the force will not be distracted by attempts at political influence over battlefield developments and will continue to perform its duties with determination and professionalism until its objectives of protecting the state, preserving its sovereignty, and maintaining its territorial unity are achieved.
