Egypt Condemns Targeting of Civilians and Aid Convoys in Kordofan

Egypt condemned the repeated attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces militia targeting humanitarian aid convoys and medical facilities in Sudan. The latest attack involved a drone strike on a World Food Programme convoy in North Kordofan State, resulting in the death of one aid worker, injuries to others, and the destruction of food assistance intended for displaced families.

In a statement, Egypt also denounced an attack on a medical facility in the Kordofan region that led to dozens of deaths and injuries, including medical personnel, describing it as a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees full protection for civilians, healthcare facilities, and medical and humanitarian workers, and strictly prohibits targeting them under any pretext.

Egypt emphasized that the repetition of such violations contributes to deepening the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe facing Sudan amid rising displacement rates and worsening food insecurity. It stressed the importance of ensuring unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the brotherly Sudanese people, in a manner that helps alleviate their suffering and creates the necessary conditions to halt escalation and restore stability.
