Atta: Leaders of the Rebel Militia Are Remnants of the Former Regime

Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, a member of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, said the current conflict is a battle of “to be or not to be,” describing the justifications put forward by the leaders of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as “baseless.”

Al-Atta stated that the RSF leadership were themselves remnants of the former regime and had previously been members of the National Congress Party (NCP).

He also asserted that foreigners who had settled in Sudan over the past decades had contributed to weakening the country’s social fabric. At the same time, he praised Sheikh Musa Hilal for what he described as his patriotic stance in Darfur.
