The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in coordination with the relevant security agencies, briefed diplomatic missions accredited to Sudan on Saturday regarding drone attacks launched from Ethiopian territory and targeting Sudan’s security, stability, territorial integrity, and the lives of its citizens.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Osman, said that these attacks, which have intensified over recent months, targeted the country’s infrastructure and vital facilities, particularly electricity generation facilities, water stations, schools, hospitals, and fuel stations. They have resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries.
The Undersecretary described these attacks as an act of aggression against Sudan, noting that they form part of a proxy war being waged by Ethiopia on behalf of regional actors and countries, foremost among them the United Arab Emirates. He pointed out that the rebel militia was being used as an instrument in this aggression.
He noted that the Asosa base inside Ethiopian territory had become a hub for supplying the rebel militia with weapons and military equipment, as well as facilitating the passage of foreign fighters and mercenaries participating in the war against Sudan. He stressed that the most dangerous development was the use of Ethiopian bases and territory as launching points for drone attacks against the country.
The Undersecretary explained that the briefing was intended to place the international community, represented by diplomatic missions accredited to Sudan, before its responsibilities in confronting this blatant aggression originating from Ethiopia.
He added that the government was making efforts to de-escalate tensions and address the existing problems in Sudanese-Ethiopian relations through various diplomatic channels, while Sudan retained its full right to respond to any act of aggression, in accordance with the rights guaranteed under international law to states subjected to attacks.
The Undersecretary further noted that the ambassadors and diplomats attending the briefing had affirmed their countries’ support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as their solidarity with the Sudanese people during their ordeal until the war comes to an end and life returns to normal across the country.
