19 Million Children Out of School in Sudan – UNICEF Warns of Worst Educational Disaster

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said in a statement on Monday that about 19 million children in Sudan are outside the educational system after six months of war and fighting between the Sudanese army and the rebel Rapid Support militia.

The statement added that about 6.5 million children have lost access to school due to increasing violence and insecurity in their areas, with at least 10,400 schools closed in areas affected by the conflict.

On Saturday, Sudan ordered the reopening of universities and the resumption of studies in all schools in the states where security conditions allow for this, according to a letter addressed to the Ministries of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research.
