South Sudan Plans to Extend Oil Pipeline as Alternative to Sudan Route

South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Oil Industry, Mayan Wol Jung, revealed that the South Sudan to extend oil pipeline to reach the sea as an alternative to the current route that passes via Sudan.
“The problem is that we can not reach the sea,” Mayan said at the “Russian Energy Week” forum held in Moscow. This mainly relates to the production of crude oil, that is exported through Sudan. Sudan is now in war.”

He pointed out that the pipeline leading to the port of Sudan is now “literally on fire.”

The official added, “Every day we try to find new solutions and obtain export permits. We need support from Russian companies in order to help extend an alternative pipeline that will allow us to transport oil to Djibouti. We believe that this oil pipeline could be a solution to this matter.”

Mayan pointed out that if the only existing oil pipeline stops working, South Sudan will face serious problem, that affect exporting the crude oil and obtain funds.
