Challenges in Sesame Harvest

A number of farmers revealed that harvesting the sesame crop this year faces several challenges, and some of them attributed these challenges during their talk to (Sudan Events) to the rise in fuel prices, in addition to the rise in labor wages and transport costs, beside other difficulties facing the requirements of the harvesting operations.
Also, they said of the rise in sesame prices due to the high cost of harvesting.
Sesame harvesting operations have begun for the current agricultural season, in Dinder locality, in mechanized and traditional agricultural areas after it reaches maturity.
The Director of the Agricultural Department in Al-Dindar Locality, Engineer Ali Hajo, explained (Saturday) that the area planted with sesame this season amounted to 260,000 acres, indicating that the sesame crop is free of pests this year, which heralds good productivity, especially with its current high prices in the markets. Hajo said that the corn crop has reached advanced stages of final maturity, but its harvesting has not yet begun except in small traditional areas.
