First (3) Suspected Cases of Cholera in Sennar

Sennar State recorded the first 3 suspected cases of cholera in the village of Basut, west of Sennar, on the border with Gezira State, where they were on a social visit to the village of Al-Hidab in Gezira State and transmitted the infection.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Awad Ahmed Youssef, Minister of Health in charge of Sennar State, confirmed that the three cases were completely isolated and dealt with through treatment, examination and sterilization, stressing that these cases are considered a warning bell that requires intensified interventions.

He said that his ministry had raised the state of readiness to the maximum level, pointing to the opening of isolation centers in Sennar and Sinja and the admission of the three suspected cases to the isolation center in Sennar, stressing that the status of the cases was very stable, and even constantly improving, pointing to the availability of medicines, solutions, and hygiene aids and the complete preparation of the isolation centers. The Minister of Health confirmed the Health Emergency Committee is in continuous session.

For her part, Dr. Mazahir Ali Mustafa Abu Haj, Director of Therapeutic Medicine, confirmed that the isolation center at Sukkar Sinar Hospital has been prepared so that the infection does not reach the densely populated community of Sinnar city. She also confirmed that the Sinnar Hospital isolation center has been prepared. Director of Basic Health Care, Fatima Mohamed Abdel Halim, confirmed that the suspected cases were followed up, noting that the situation was being followed closely to spare the state from spreading the epidemic, especially after recording suspected cases in West Sennar.
