Seizing Smuggled Medicines Worth 200 Million Pounds in Medani

The General Administration of Pharmacy and Poisons in Gezira State, in collaboration with the security authorities in Medani, have seized large quantities of highly specialized medicines for cancer patients, smuggled and not registered with the Ministry of Health, worth over 200 million pounds.

The official news agency SUNA has quoted Dr. Habibullah Al-Nour, Director of the State General Administration of Pharmacy and Poisons, as praising the existing coordination between his administration, the security authorities and the Judiciary, stressing that all measures stipulated in the Pharmacy and Poisons Act have been taken. He announced that these medicines shall greatly alleviate the suffering of patients in searching for treatment.

In a related development, Al-Sadig Osman, Judge of the Court of Appeal in Medani, Resident Judge, confirmed the facilitation of all procedures by the court that contribute to providing medicines to patients, explaining that there is great coordination between the Ministry of Health and the Court.

For his part, Dr. Osama Abdel-Rahman Ahmed Al-Faki, Director General of the Ministry of Health, confirmed that his ministry is continuing to combat the smuggling of medicines, announcing that the seized medicines will be delivered to the Gezira Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Tumors in Medani where they will be distributed to patients free of charge.
