Sudan Event /Talal Muddathir

Minni Arko Minawi, Governor of the Darfur region, western Sudan, congratulated the new UN envoy to Sudan, Ambassador Ramtan Lamamra, on his appointment as head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Transition in Sudan (UNTAMS)
Minawi said in a new post on the “X” platform, Saturday, that in light of the faltering peace negotiations, the escalation of violence in Darfur, and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions, he hopes that the new envoy will be able to stir global conscience to put an end to the ongoing suffering and genocide against the people of Darfur and achieve lasting peace for all Sudanese.
Sudan had called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to “immediately” end the United Nations Transition Support Mission (UNITAMS), according to a letter delivered to the UN Security Council last Thursday evening, which Antonio Gutierrez ignored, Friday, and appointed the Algerian Lamamra as the new head of the mission, the mandate of which shall expire in the third of next month, succeeding Volker Berthes, the former head of the mission.
