The conference will be held in conjunction with the ceremony honoring the winners of the ninth session of Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, which will be held after the conclusion of the conference, on December 12, 2023.
The conference is a cultural and intellectual forum for translators, as it discusses, over two days in 7 scientific sessions, a number of topics, the most important of which are: Arabic-Spanish translation, Moresques, translation of issues in the philosophy of science, translation and artificial intelligence, institutional projects in translation, teaching Arabic culture in non-universities, Arabic, Bulgarian, Somali and Sindhi translations to and from Arabic.
The winners of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding are expected to be announced after the end of the conference, as individuals and institutions concerned with translation from 38 countries around the world compete for the award in its ninth season. The nominated works include various humanities, most notably: literature, Islamic studies, philosophy, social sciences, and sciences, Politics, and history.
In the ninth session, the Spanish language was chosen as a main language (along with English), and Bulgarian, Sindhi, and Somali were chosen as sub-languages, to stimulate translation efforts from and into the Arabic language in the countries that speak these languages, and to encourage the continuity of acculturation between the societies of these countries and the Arab societies.
It is worth noting that Sheikh Hamad Translation Award was launched in 2015, and is the largest award for translation from and into the Arabic language at the global level, with a total financial value of two million US dollars.
