Foreign Ministry: considering escalation against UAE

Agencies – Sudan Events

A senior official at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed measures are being evaluated for what could be taken towards the United Arab Emirates.

The official told Darfur 24 that relations with the UAE were no longer good after the outbreak of the war on April 15 of this year.

Last week, a member of the Sovereign Council Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta launched a fierce attack against the UAE, accusing it of supporting the Rapid Support Forces.

Al-Atta, who was speaking before members of the security apparatus, described UAE as the “mafia”.

He is the first Sudanese official to pronounce a clear attack against the Gulf state, which is accused by several entities of siding with the Rapid Support Forces in the war against the Sudanese army.

Al-Atta’s statements were followed by marches in the city of Port Sudan after Friday prayers, demanding the expulsion of the UAE ambassador.

Darfur 24 noted that the Sudanese government did not send a congratulatory cable on the occasion of the anniversary of the UAE National Day, Saturday.
