Egypt: Sugar Shortage Ending
Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi
The Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade issued a directive to the Holding Company for Food Industries, subsidiary of the Ministry, to provide the quantity of sugar required by the Sugar Department, being the representative of private sector factories and food industry companies. These will get their needs from the department directly.
The head of the Sugar Department in the Food Industries Chamber of the Industries Federation, Hassan Al-Afandi, indicated that the Chamber has sent a list to the Ministry of Supply that includes names of factories, their needs for sugar, and the need of the private sector.
He explained that the free market will witness a major breakthrough soon. He pointed out that the food industries are in great need of raw sugar at the present time.
It should be noted that authorities have confiscated about 800 tons of sugar from a number of hoarders last past week.
