IGAD’s Summit on Sudan
Sudan Event – Follow-up
The upcoming IGAD summit meeting is scheduled to discuss the humanitarian situation in Sudan, where about six million people have been displaced and more than 11,000 killed since the outbreak of war in mid-April.
Sources told “Sudan Events” that the summit on Sudan has set the 9th of December as the date for its convening.
The Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) is scheduled to amend its previous mediation program regarding Sudan, which included the establishment of a quartet of countries including Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and South Sudan to lead the negotiations between the warring parties, headed by Kenya, to which Sudan expressed reservations.
According to IGAD tradition, the summit’s decision cannot be canceled or amended except through a similar session, which is what is expected to happen at coming summit in December 9th.
