Johannesburg Hosts Anti-Doping Workshop

The workshop for anti-doping monitors at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which was launched yesterday in Johannesburg – South Africa, will conclude sessions today, Wednesday, with the participation of all specialist doctors in the continent.
The opening day of the workshop was attended by the President of the South African Football Association, Dr. Danny Jordaan, who was accompanied by the Association’s Chief Executive, Ms. Lydia Monibau, to welcome 41 doctors from all over Africa on the two-day gathering.
The workshop was supervised by senior anti-doping experts and doctors from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The first day of the workshop included a series of presentations by CAF on the latest doping developments, which include CAF’s Anti-Doping Unit in African Football, as well as CAF’s collaboration with FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Dr. Thilani Nigonia, who is considered a member of the CAF Medical Committee, said that the issue of doping needs regular visitation, because it plays a silent, but very crucial role in the development of football in Africa.
