Girona coach Mitchell Sanchez confirmed, after his team’s victory over Barcelona (2-4) on Sunday evening, and being at the top of the Spanish La Liga standings, that his players are “truly making history.”
The Spanish coach said: “I don’t know if we are in a position to win the league, but we can compete with any opponent.”
The victory coincided with the day Mitchell completed 100 matches in the Spanish First Division.
He said: “I am very happy with the mentality more than the result. I have seen Barcelona dominant many times, but I have also seen Girona special.”
Mitchell indicated that he does not know whether his team “is able to withstand the level of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico throughout the season,” although he added that “winning the league still isn’t the team’s main goal”.
He concluded: “We can finally say that we will not go down. The goal has been completed.”
