State Department: Press Conference On Sudan

The US Department of State will hold a press conference, Thursday, December 14, 2023, focused on war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide in Sudan, and developments in the Sudanese scene in light of the repercussions of the IGAD conference.
Speaking at the conference will be Beth Van Schaack, the US State Department’s Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice (GCJ), who frequently advises the Secretary of State and other Department leadership on issues related to prevention,responding to atrocity crimes including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Ambassador Van Schaack previously served as Deputy Ambassador-at-Large to the Geneva International Conference from 2012 to 2013. Prior to her return to public service in 2022, Ambassador Van Schaack was the Leah Kaplan Visiting Professor of Human Rights at Stanford Law School, where she taught international, criminal law, and human rights.
This week, the US State Department welcomed, through official spokesman Matthew Miller, the commitments announced at the IGAD summit, which were acknowledged by the Sudanese army and Rapid Support, regarding an unconditional ceasefire and holding a bilateral meeting between Al-Burhan and Hemedti.
