EU Urges RSF to Withdraw from Gezira

The European Union expressed its dismay at the recent developments in Sudan and urged the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to withdraw from Gezira State and stop fighting in El Fasher.
The Union said in a statement yesterday, Monday, that as a result, a state of emergency was declared in Gezira State and humanitarian relief operations were suspended there, noting that Wad Madani remained a refuge for many fleeing the conflict and a vital center for humanitarian relief.
The European Union indicated in the statement that the intensification of the conflict comes just days after the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces made official commitments to the heads of state and government of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) to stop hostilities and engage into political dialogue, stressing that reliable reports it received indicated that the fighting had spread to civilian areas in Gezira State, and that the city of El Fasher in North Darfur is still under constant threat of attack.
