Taqadum: SAF and RSF meet directly

Sudan Events-Follow-ups

The Civil Democratic Forces Coordination (Taqadum) has revealed efforts and contacts were underway with the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Militia, to convince them into holding direct talks on how to end the war without imposing any preconditions.
(Taqadum) was formed after several meetings by Sudanese political forces, most of which were from the Forces of Freedom and Change – the Central Council, following the outbreak of war in the country between the regular army and the Rapid Support Militia.
The preparatory meeting of the Democratic Civil Forces Unit in Addis Ababa last October announced the agreement to form a leadership body headed by former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk to follow up on preparations for holding a founding congress.
The Coordination Committee confirmed in a statement published today (Sunday), “Efforts and communications continue with the leadership of the Army and Rapid Support to stop the catastrophe of war and to hold a direct meeting between them without preconditions and as quickly as possible.”
It said that communications are also continuing in the unified mediation platform and its actors from the regional, Arab, African and international arenas “to increase pressure on the two parties to restore peace in the country and reach final solutions that extinguish the fire of the devastating war that has befallen the country and restore the peaceful democratic process.”
In this context, the coordination called on the Sudanese people to raise their voices by rejecting the war and to unite now before tomorrow “to stop the devastating disaster of war.”
Reports and media sources spoke of an expected direct meeting between the leadership of the army and the Rapid Support, and confirmed that the army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, agreed to the proposal of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) to hold a direct meeting with the commander of the Rapid Support militia, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).
