The United States Agency for International Development in Sudan condemned the looting of the headquarters of the World Food Program in Gezira State by members of the Rapid Support militia, and described the matter as “unacceptable.”
Yesterday (Thursday), the World Food Program confirmed that the Rapid Support militia looted food stocks from the program’s warehouse and office in Gezira State after seizing the city of Wad Madani.
“We join our partner, the World Food Program, in condemning the looting of food supplies from its headquarters in Gezira State after members of the Rapid Support Forces stormed the warehouse and office of the World Food Program, after the Rapid Support Forces took control of Wad Madani”. The US Agency for International Development said in a statement today (Friday).
“This food was enough to feed nearly 1.5 million severely food insecure people for one month,” The agency added.
The agency stressed that any interference or theft of humanitarian goods is unacceptable, and prevents life-saving aid from reaching those who need it most.
