MFA Warns against Imposing Solutions

Sudan Event – Follow-ups

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) welcomed the press statement by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, which he issued yesterday, Monday, on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of Sudan’s independence.

The Ministry expressed, in a statement on Tuesday, its surprise that the US statement has returned to using generalized phrases talking about crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and sexual violence without naming those who committed them, despite the fact that the last statement by the US Secretary of State on December 6, 2023 categorically referred to the “Rapid Support militia” (RSF) responsibility for these crimes.

The Ministry added that this comes while the terrorist militia is continuing its crimes to include rural areas, some of which do not even have police stations, as is happening in Gezira State with its repeated liquidations on ethnic grounds and its use of terrorist methods to forcefully recruit young people and children in the region, noting that the Permanent Representative had previously alerted the United Nations when the militia attacked the city of Wad Medani that terrorist crimes will not go unpunished, as investigative reports by major international media outlets last week highlighted the horrific extent to which the militia has descended in the ethnic massacres it commits, by killing even male infants hailing from tribes it targets.

This constitutes a crime of genocide, as it was expected that the US Secretary’s recent statement would indicate this matter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the American statement has ignored the reference to the militia’s disavowal of its obligations under the Jeddah Declaration of Humanitarian Principles signed last May last year, which would end human suffering and pave the way for a ceasefire if it is fully implemented.
