Morocco is the first team to arrive in Côte d’Ivoire, excluding the host country, to participate in the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations, as the “Atlas Lions” arrived at Ivorian territory at dawn today..
The World Cup semi-finalist arrived at Felix Houphouet-Boigny Airport, in Abidjan, on Sunday afternoon, amid drumbeats and local traditional dancing, to welcome the Moroccans to Côte d’Ivoire.
The plane carrying the coach, Walid Raqraqi, and his cubs landed in Abidjan at around 14:00, local time, to the beating of drums and dancing to African tunes, from the revival of a local band, and under the supervision of the local organizing committee for the competition.
Minister Kony was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Côte d’Ivoire, Abdelmalek Kettani, some officials of the Confederation of African Football, and members of the local government.
The Atlas Lions team, showed high focus on its players, headed directly from the city of Abidjan to San Pedro, where it will enter the first round of the competition in Group Six, where they will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Zambia.
