UNICEF: War Threatens 24 Million Children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Director in Sudan has confirmed that if the war between the army and the militia Rapid Support Forces continues, the country will witness a “generational catastrophe” whose first victims will be 24 million Sudanese children.
“The conflict in Sudan is endangering the health of 24 million children and thus the future of the country, which could have dire consequences for the entire region.” Said Mandip O’Brien in an interview with Agence France-Presse.
For its part, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest report that more than half a million people were affected by the clashes in the Al-Gezira state, central Sudan.
“More than 500,000 people were affected by the clashes that took place between the army and the Rapid Support in parts of Al-Gezira State, according to the Displacement Tracking Matrix of the International Organization for Migration.” The office explained.
