Agar: No Need for the IGAD Summit
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Malik Agar, Vice President of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, has told the visiting Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ramtane Lamamra, on Sunday, that there is no point in holding a new IGAD summit, especially after failure to implement what was agreed upon during the most recent summit.
Agar said that during his meeting with Lamamra, he discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, the upcoming IGAD summit, and Sudan’s position on these issues.
He added, “My meeting with the envoy was cordial, and we discussed many issues about the Sudanese crisis, especially since the envoy is on an exploration trip to learn about the views of the Sudanese, with the aim of developing a road map for the purpose of presenting it to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on how to address the crisis in Sudan.”
Agar indicated that he assured Lamamra that the war in Sudan has regional and international dimensions that must be discussed extensively.
