The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has revealed the provision of emergency financial and food assistance, as well as urgent relief materials to displaced people and host communities in Sudan.
The organization said in posts on its Facebook page today (Sunday) that the multi-purpose cash assistance provided by the organization represents a very important lifeline for affected families throughout Sudan.
IOM confirmed that more than 6,000 displaced people and members of the host community in Gadarif State have been reached with direct cash assistance, thanks to the support provided by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It also announced the provision of emergency food aid to support more than 200 vulnerable displaced and migrant families, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Kasala State, with support provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but noted the need for more support as the violence persists .
In addition, the organization stated yesterday that it, along with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, are providing urgent relief materials to thousands of people displaced due to the escalation of violence in Sudan.
It pointed out that more than 27,000 people in Kosti, White Nile State, received non-food items and life-saving hygiene supplies with support from the European Union for Civil and Humanitarian Protection, and said that the needs are still huge throughout the country.
