An Israeli Player Under Investigation by Turkish Club

The Turkish Basaksehir Football Club, on the outskirts of Istanbul, announced that it had begun a disciplinary investigation against its Israeli player, Edin Kartsev, due to a post on social media.

Basaksehir Club wrote on its account on the “X” website that Edin Kartsev “violated the club’s disciplinary instructions by posting on his personal account on social media in a manner that contradicts the sensitivities of our country.”

The club did not specify the exact post in question, but according to the official Turkish radio station “TRT Haber”, the Israeli player re-posted a photo from another account on the occasion of the 100th day since the Palestinian Hamas movement held hostages with the hashtag “BringThem Home Now.”

The Turkish club Antalyaspor had announced the exclusion of the other Israeli player, Sagiv Jehezkel, from the team, due to a movement of a political nature that he made.

The club explained, in a statement on Sunday, that the Israeli player “conducted an act that conflicts with the national values ​​of our country,” according to what the official Anatolia Agency reported.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz said that his compatriot, player Sagiv Jehezkel, who was arrested after displaying a message supporting the hostages held by Hamas, will return to Israel on Monday.

It is noteworthy that Eden Kartsev joined the ranks of Basaksehir club in January 2023, according to the Turkish Football Federation.
