UKMTO: Incident South of Yemen’s Mokha

Sudan Events – Sumaya Sayed

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) organization said that it received a report on Wednesday of an incident 50 nautical miles south of Mokha, Yemen.

“(The) master reports an explosion approximately 100 meters from the vessel on its starboard side. Vessel and crew are safe, no injuries or damage reported,” the advisory note said.
Earlier on Wednesday, UKMTO said it has received a report of an incident 45 nautical miles south of Yemen’s Aden.

UKMTO added that the authorities are investigating the incident and no further details were given. It said that on Tuesday it received a report of uncrewed aerial system activity in the vicinity of 46 nautical miles south of Yemen’s Mokha.
Houthi militants have launched wave after wave of exploding drones and missiles at commercial vessels since November 19, in what they say is a protest against Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
The Houthi campaign has been extraordinarily disruptive to international shipping, causing some companies to suspend transits through the Red Sea and instead take the much longer, costlier journey around Africa.
