Lawyers: RSF Militia Intimidating Civilian Population

A Sudanese human rights group condemned the Rapid Support Militia’s continued expansion of the scope of the war in safe cities and intimidation the civilian population.

The independent human rights group Emergency Lawyers Group said that the Rapid Support Forces attacked the city of Babanousa, West Kordufan State, and its surrounding villages, with the fighting going on for three days in which light and heavy weapons and aerial and artillery bombardment have been used.

The group added that the fighting at least 23 dead and more than (30) civilians injured, in addition to the displacement of large numbers of civilians to other areas looking for safety.

The group condemned the continued rapid support expanding the scope of the war in safe cities and intimidating civilian population, and while committing grave violations.

The lawyers have noted that these crimes do not have a statute of limitations and are subject to criminal accountability in accordance with international humanitarian law and the statute of the International Criminal Court.

The Emergency Lawyers Group expressed deep regret and concern over the violations committed against defenseless civilians in West Kordufan State, and affirmed its intention to monitor all violations by both sides of the war, and that it will cooperate with all regional and international organizations to expose these crimes, and will work to prevent impunity.
