Warnings against Using Electric Shock in Fishing

The Minister of Livestock in the River Nile State has announced the completion of all studies to establish a fish feed factory in the River Nile to cover the local consumption market.

An expert in the field of animal production, agricultural engineer Awad Bashir, warned against overfishing in the Merowe Dam and the fishermen’s use of types of nets with electric shocks, stressing that this affects the abundance of stock around the dam lake. He appealed to the Governor of the Northern State to enact legislation and oversight around the dam lake and to tighten entry into the dam and the number of commercial companies, after ensuring the safety of using fishing methods. Academics and researchers attending the animal investment symposium at the Animal Products and Pastures Exhibition in Damer, stressed the nest to implement state laws in all states to protect the white meat sector, which represents an important economic resource in Sudan.
