Babanousa: Clashes Leave Dozens Killed and Injured
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
An independent medical source has revealed that the victims of the Rapid Support militia (RSF) attack on Babanousa, West Kordufan state, have reached 26 dead and injured, according to preliminary statistics.
The preliminary committee of the Sudan Doctors Syndicate said in a press statement that Babanousa witnessed bloody clashes in which all types of weapons were used on January 23 and 24 following the RSF attack, and that the initial count of the number of civilian casualties reached (10) dead and (16) injured.
The committee has confirmed that the clashes affected the health situation in the city, as all health facilities (the general hospital and private clinics) were out of service.
It added that escorts and medical personnel face difficulty in transferring injured persons to neighboring towns, as they are exposed to the horrors and dangers of bombing and assault.
The committee stated that some residential neighborhoods and nomadic communities were subjected to aerial bombardment, leaving a number of victims being counted in light of poor communication and failure to provide first aid.
The committee called on the armed forces and the RSF to stop the fighting so that civilians are not endangered, and appealed to humanitarian organizations to pressure to open safe humanitarian corridors for medical personnel, the sick and the injured to receive the adequate medical services.
