White Nile: 40,000 Fedans of wheat, Cultivated

The White Nile State was able to grow 40,000 fedans of wheat and 21,000 fedans of vegetables, in addition to a considerable amount of fodder during the winter season, despite the war conditions and the challenges facing the winter agricultural season.

The General Manager of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in the state, Eng. Wissal Sheikh Farah, said this was achieved wi in-kind support provided by the World Food Program in a form of ownership of seeds and fertilizers for (19,000) farmers. She confirmed during her visit to a number of irrigated projects and Nile pumps in the southern areas of Kosti locality, the ministry’s interest to introduce the use of electricity in irrigated projects and introducing solar energy as an alternative and low-cost energy in the irrigation system.

Wissal pointed to the efforts made by the Governor of the White Nile and the ministry’s communications to cover the deficit in agricultural gasoline.

In the meantime, the representative of the Executive Director of Kosti Locality, Director of the Umm Hani Administrative Unit, Musa Mohammad Abdul Majeed, appreciated the combined efforts, cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Production and the locality, stressing that more cooperation and effort will be made to overcome the challenges and make the winter agricultural season a success.

The farmers called on the Ministry of Production and the competent authorities to fill the shortage of gasoline, support inputs, electrify projects, and introduce solar energy to use in irrigated projects.
