The Head of the shelter Center at Al-Ittihad Secondary School for Girls in El Fasher, Sumaya Hamad Ahmed Adam, has revealed that the center hosts 377 families, consisting of over 2,000 displaced people.
She pointed out that those who were displaced last June were “95” families, but the displacement that took place during September and October of last year exacerbated the humanitarian situation in that “40” families did not find housing other than the open air, calling on the state government and organizations to intervene by providing tents, or resorting to building “straws houses,” as well as blankets, winter clothes for children, mosquito nets, and carpets, besides lighting devices. The center’s official complained about the lack of water in the center, which requires maintaining broken pumps, restoring the basin, and providing water supplies to places remote from the basin, in addition to providing cups. She called for the regular provision of food supplies in an integrated manner, and said: Some families do not have enough food for the day, and others share one meal daily, noting the necessity of allocating financial support to families that include the elderly, widows, and people with special needs, in addition to providing medicines, especially for chronic diseases, and establishing sanitary facilities, allocating waste bins, in addition to providing hygiene tools. She also urged seizing the opportunity to educate the children inside the center, who number 356 children, and supporting educational activity by providing school equipment and motivating educational staff, besides paying attention to cultural and sports activities.
