Foreign Ministry Rejects Corruption Accusations

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected accusations leveled against its office in Port Sudan regarding documentation procedures, and described the information that was circulated (by an anonymous writer) as “fake” and baseless.

Office of the Official Spokesperson said in a statement today (Wednesday) that, according to the current exceptional situations the Foreign Ministry opened two documentation offices in the cities of Port Sudan and Wad Madani, and a window at the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, to facilitate access to the service for those in need.

He noted that the work at Wad Madani office had stopped due to the terrorist militia’s aggression against it, that led to a doubling the service seekers in the Port Sudan office, without an increase in number of employees in the office.

He said that this requires administrative and financial procedures that are not available only to the ministry , with the participation of employees of other government agencies in the process, and due to the consequences of the war it was imposed that the ministries’ offices be in Port Sudan with a specific number of employees.

The statement stated that the documentation cycle includes examining documents first, then registration, then payment of fees, and finally sealing, and since any auditor often carries many documents to authenticate, there is no truth to what was said that documentation takes only five minutes.

The Ministry affirmed that the large number of visitors required that registration be done a day before documentation, and entry organized because the place cannot accommodate more than 150 persons , and registration begins at 5 to 8:30 am. not one 1 am , as claimed, without specifying a maximum number of those registered.

It said that the documentation window opens at eight in the morning continuously until three-thirty without stopping, even to eat, and more than 600 references are documented daily, with an average of 6 documents.

It stressed that if there are those who offer to speed up documentation services in exchange for sums of money, it is the duty of citizens to report them.
