Spanish club Barcelona president Joan Laporta expected that the European Super League would start next season, downplaying the importance of English clubs participating in the league.

The start date of the first edition of the European Super League has not yet been revealed, which has witnessed English clubs staying away from the scene during the recent period.

December 2023 witnessed a return to life regarding the future of the European Super League, after the decision of the European Court of Justice, which granted clubs the right to organize tournaments outside of the International and Continental Football Associations.

“I expect that the first edition of the European Super League will start during the next season.” Laporta said in statements highlighted by the Spanish newspaper.

“It is possible that Inter, Milan, Roma and Napoli (Italian) clubs will join Real Madrid and Barcelona (Spain) in the European Super League.” He stressed.

Laporta identified Porto, Sporting and Benfica from the Portuguese League as participating elements in the tournament, along with Ajax, Feyenoord and Eindhoven from the Netherlands, in addition to Marseille of France and Club Brugge and Anderlecht of Belgium.

“Their presence with us does not matter, because they already have their own Super League (the Premier League).” He concluded.
