Summer Season Farmers Suffer Huge Losses
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The official spokesman for the Agricultural Chamber in Gedaref State, Hassan Zarrouk, acknowledged the high cost of agriculture this year during the summer season, indicating in his interview with (Sudan Events) that most of the agriculture was corn, while its prices have become low and do not cover the cost.
Zarrouk confirmed that the summer agricultural season suffered from many problems, most notably the weak rains in the northern region, which is the large and main area for growing corn and sesame, which caused weak corn and sesame production, adding that the level of rain in the southern region was good.
Zarrouk revealed that farmers are suffering losses due to the high cost, pointing out that the farmer has been exposed to losses for three consecutive years, in light of the stability of the crop price while the dollar has doubled more than once.
Zarrouk confirmed that sesame prices are considered good despite its poor productivity, noting that they now range between 60,000 pounds per quintal to 50,000 pounds, while before the events in Madani, they reached 75,000 pounds.
