Emers Faye, coach of the Côte d’Ivoire national team, confirmed that the Nigerian national team’s performance is free of errors, indicating that he does not consider himself a “Special One.”
The national teams of Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire will meet on Sunday evening in the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
“It is a great opportunity to keep the cup at home, which is difficult with the African Cup of Nations. We are 90 minutes away from this achievement and adding a new star to the Ivory Coast shirt.” Fayet said in statements during the press conference for the match.
“Nigeria’s performance was almost error-free. As the competition progressed, they gained strength and became more dangerous offensively and more solid defensively.” He added.
“For us, it’s the opposite. We gained momentum from the match against Senegal in the round of 16. We will try to tire them out over the course of 90 minutes.” He continued.
Fayet continued: “We had a meeting this morning with my technical team. We have an idea of the backbone of the team that will start tomorrow. We will evaluate more players this afternoon. We have the same mentality as the group, 11 on the field, 12 on the bench and 4 in the stands. We all have the same goal.”
“I’m not a special one. I was lucky enough to know the team before. I took charge. I didn’t invent anything. I just do the basic things.” He continued.
“Preparing for this match is like other matches. We continue to focus on ourselves, our strengths and our weaknesses to see how we can create problems for them.” The Cote d’Ivoire coach concluded his statements.
