Legal expert Khaled Al-Babtain, former head of the Disciplinary Committee, confirmed that there are quick steps that Al-Nasr Club management can take, in order to disrupt the implementation of the punishment imposed on its goalkeeper, Nawaf Al-Aqidi.
Goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi was suspended for 5 months and fined 300,000 riyals, due to the exclusion crisis from the Al-Akhdar camp, under the leadership of Italian coach Roberto Mancini.
Al-Babtain stressed, in statements reported by the Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper, that Al-Nasr has the right to request urgent temporary measures, and to stop the punishment of Nawaf Al-Aqidi and Muhammad Khalil Maran in order to play the AFC Champions League match.
The appeal of the Professionalism Committee’s decisions before the Saudi Sports Arbitration Center comes as a decisive step to resolve the duo’s punishment file.
The Saudi Football Association had announced sanctions against 6 of the national team’s players, after their recent crisis with Mancini, as the latter justified the exclusion of the Hexagon from the Green list in the 2023 Asian Cup due to their desire to leave the camp.
The players denied what Mancini said, so the Saudi Football Association opened an investigation into the matter and issued its decision.
