Difficulty Quantifying Losses from Communications Network Shutdown

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

The economic expert, Dr. Muhammad Al-Nayer, confirmed that the size of the economic losses to the Sudanese economy due to the interruption of communications networks and the Internet is very large. However, he pointed out that it is currently difficult to accurately estimate it, “I do not think that there is anyone who has reached a real number.” He added in his interview with “Sudan Events,”. Now for the size of the losses,” and mortgaged its account in a precise manner by assigning the state to assign a specialized, integrated team to conduct a complete inventory of the size of the losses. However, Al-Nayer reported that the return of some telecommunications companies to service has greatly reduced the burden on citizens who depend in their lives on bank transfers, and it is known that a very large number of Sudanese are connected to the service. Whether inside Sudan or from abroad through their families and relatives.

Al-Nair said that the communications and information technology sector is one of the most important sectors in the modern era of the countries’ economies, stressing that it represents the backbone of the Sudanese economy, and without it, the economy will suffer greatly. He attributed this to the fact that in the past, before the emergence of communications, countries used to adapt and adapt to manual transactions in the banking sector and government transactions, in addition to other things. However, in light of the modern era, all countries of the world, including Sudan, have developed and rely on the communications and information technology sector, pointing out that Sudan is one of the advanced countries in the sector in terms of networks, fiber-optic networks, and networks connected to the outside via sea and river cables, as well as the area of networks that It is spread throughout Sudan, and therefore this sector has been relied upon in all state agencies as well as the banking sector. Al-Nayer confirmed that the sector has recently become the most influential, considering that under the current circumstances, citizens have become dependent on bank transfers through banking applications, and he noted that in the past when communications stopped, the size of the losses suffered by telecommunications companies was looked at, but he pointed out that this is a narrow perspective because companies are able to determine the size of their losses, and that is because the loss was not calculated only by what the telecommunications companies lose, but the loss was not calculated only by what the telecommunications companies lose, but rather it is calculated by what the Sudanese economy loses it.
