Real Madrid offers to Luka Modric to join the technical staff

Carlo Ancelotti has offered Luka Modric the opportunity to join his coaching staff at Real Madrid, if he decides to retire at the end of the season.
An offer was made from Ancelotti to Modric to join his team behind the scenes about two months ago. Although the Croatia international was grateful for the opportunity, he initially turned it down. However, sources familiar with the situation – who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect relations – say that “it was not final”, suggesting that Modric will still consider the proposal. At the same time, they realize that the midfielder is still hungry to compete, and that his priority is to continue playing.
Modric’s contract (38 years old) expires in the summer, and he has participated in 20 matches in the Spanish League so far, in the 2023-2024 season. As has been the case since the beginning of the season, the idea of renewal is the least likely scenario, although there is no final decision on this matter.
The Athletic newspaper reported this month that Modric has not yet made a decision about his future. Sources close to the player said they do not think he is in a rush to make a decision. His plan is to finish the season well, and then enjoy a successful European Championship with Croatia.
Ancelotti was asked about Modric’s future before Real Madrid’s victory over Getafe at the beginning of this February. He said: “As I said (on other occasions), Luca is a legend in football, at Real Madrid. “He must make the decisions for next season himself.”
The offer made to Modric is independent of the future of assistant coach David Ancelotti and Francesco Mauri, who rejected a tempting offer from Saudi Arabia last January. Both confirmed their intention to stay, fully committed to the current training setup.
Last June, Modric signed a new one-year contract with Real Madrid. He attracted the interest of Al-Nassr Saudi Club; But he chose to stay in Spain.
Modric moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, and has made 516 appearances for the club since then.
During his time, he collected an impressive collection of 23 trophies, including 5 Champions League titles, 3 Spanish League titles, and 3 Club World Cup titles.
In addition to his team achievements, the midfielder has won many individual awards since arriving in Spain; Especially his winning the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
