Javier Tebas, the president of the Spanish Football League (La Liga), has stated that the league is exploring the possibility of establishing a potential partnership with the German Football League (Bundesliga) to enhance international marketing efforts.
“La Liga is conducting a study to determine whether it would be beneficial in certain markets to collaborate with the Bundesliga or any other league in marketing our television broadcasting rights.” Tebas told the German newspaper “Sport Bild” on Wednesday.
“Together, we may be able to better compete with the English Premier League.” He added.
The English Premier League earns billions of dollars from international broadcasting rights and significantly outperforms other leagues in this regard.
La Liga has been collaborating with “CVC Capital Partners” since 2021, and the company is also the sole remaining candidate for investment in the German Football League. However, this deal has faced opposition from German fans.
Tebas emphasized that the partnership and experience with “CVC” in Spain have been highly positive. “As partners, they not only provide us with financial support but also valuable experience and knowledge. CVC was previously active in Formula 1. If the company performs well, so do we, as we receive 92% of the revenue.” He stated.
Tebas further highlighted that the Bundesliga has significant potential to increase local television broadcasting income substantially.
