Livestock: The sector supported the treasury despite the war

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Livestock, Dr. Hassan Al-Toum, admitted in his interview with (Sudan Events) that the large levies and fees imposed on livestock sector make them lose their international competition.
He revealed the sector’s contribution to supporting the public treasury despite the war conditions, noting that the volume of exports is very large for the year 2023 compared to 2022, adding that the revenue from calves exported from January to August alone amounted to $35,853,600, while the revenue from camel exports amounted to $82,027,000. Noting that the total export revenue amounted to about 500 million dollars compared to 2022 exports, so all live export revenue amounted to 2,300.00 million.
Hassan Al-Toum explained that livestock exports in 2023 amounted to approximately five million live heads, and he considered it an unprecedented number in the past five years, despite the ongoing war in the country.
He said that sheep exports reached (4,441,000) heads, and exports of camels, cows, and goats reached 600,000.
