Real Reasons for Relieving Gezira Scheme Governor
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
Follow-ups from (Sudan Events) has revealed that the main reason behind the relieving of the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Dr. Omar Marzouk, was to demand that by Gezira Scheme Management the return of Scheme’s vehicle, which was borrowed in a letter from the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Bushra, dated February 10, 2024, for a period of only ten days. However, after a full month has passed from the date the car has not been returned.
On February 12, 2024, the Director of the Agricultural Department of the Scheme, Ibrahim Mustafa, sent a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, based on the direction of Governor Dr. Omar Marzouk, requesting that the vehicle be returned after they received a letter from the Ministry renewing the borrowing of the Scheme’s vehicle for an indefinite period.
The letter, a copy of which was obtained by (Sudan Events), considered that the matter meant that the car had been transferred to the minister permanently, and he described it as incorrect manner, noting that the car was for the Scheme and not affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The letter indicated that if their intention was to obtain the car permanently, why was it not explained in the first letter, and he wondered why they resorted to this trick.
The letter explained that the governor was on sick leave and it was interrupted by the minister requesting that he come to Port Sudan despite his knowledge that Port Sudan had no work related to agriculture or the Gezira Scheme, which put the governor in contact with the workers in the Al-Manaqil area and Gezira and would like to visit them and therefore needed his own car. The letter explained that the governor is constitutional and this car was allocated to him, and the letter mentioned toughly taking of measures to preserve the sovereignty of the Gezira Scheme.
At a time, observers criticized the timing of issuing the relieving decision and attributed it to the circumstances of the war and considered it an inappropriate time, in addition to the fact that the governor began developing a program to develop the Scheme.
