Arrangements to increase the electrical connection with Egypt to 1000 MW

The Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohieddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed, revealed,
Arrangements were made to expedite the increase of the electrical connection with the Republic of Egypt from (80) MW to (300) MW via the (BOT) system.
During his meeting (Monday) with the Ambassador of the Republic of Egypt, Hani Salah, the Minister confirmed the progress of the Sudanese-Egyptian electrical interconnection work, in the presence of the Director General of the Sudan Electricity Holding Company, and that 90% of the equipment related to the expansion of the project had arrived at the Dongola Station and Merowe Station, while the civil works in the two stations had reached (36%). He stated that the project is awaiting supervision from the Egyptian side to follow up on civil works, he stressed the importance of cooperation and activating training for electricity workers, praising the efforts made during this critical period, and called for the importance of accelerating the pace in the agricultural electricity project, which work began during the previous period, explaining that the station Klanayeb Electricity in Port Sudan is funded by the African Bank.
For his part, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ambassador Hani Salah, revealed the interest and follow-up of the Egyptian side at the highest levels, indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is personally following the Sudanese-Egyptian electrical interconnection project, stressing Egypt’s readiness to provide all the electricity the city of Port Sudan needs through any of the projects that suit the side. Al-Sudani explained that Egypt owns the largest power station in the world from Siemens.
The Director General of the Sudan Electricity Holding Company, Abdullah Ahmed Muhammad Ali, said that the project aims in the short term (300) MW and in the long term (1000) MW, explaining that the city of Port Sudan’s need for electricity is (200) MW per year, as the length of “Port Sudan – Atbara – Al-Kabashi” line (760) km.
He explained that the General Director of the Electricity Transmission Company is following up at this time from Cairo with the Egyptian side, and it is expected that a delegation from the Electricity Commission will join him to speed up the project.
